Rey Mysterio officially moved to the WWE Smackdown brand

During the October 14th 2022 edition of WWE Smackdown, Rey Mysterio told Triple H that he reached his “breaking point” from the situation with his son Dominik and was quitting WWE. Triple H said he wanted to work something out with Rey and they went into Triple H’s locker room.

Later in the show, Mysterio became the 4th participant in a match to crown a new #1 contender for the Intercontinental title. Michael Cole revealed on commentary that a deal was made for Mysterio to officially join the Smackdown roster. Mysterio ended up winning the match to earn an IC title opportunity against Gunther.
