Results of Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes at WWE Wrestlemania 40 Sunday

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal title took place at WWE Wrestlemania 40 Sunday. Here are the highlights…

* Cody’s wife Brandi was part of his entrance as he rose from under the stage with a Skeleton mask. An orchestra and choir performed the music for Reigns’ entrance. Michael Cole called the match the “9th inning.”

* The two had a staredown before they locked up. Cody sent Reigns to the outside and pulled a table from under the ring. Reigns attacked Cody and slid the table back under the ring. Reigns used a kendo stick on Cody. Cody gained the upper hand and applied a figure four leglock but Reigns escaped by gouging the eyes.

* The fight went into the crowd. Cody gave Reigns a suplex on a platform in the stands and then brought Reigns back to ringside. Back in the ring, Cody went for a disaster kick but Reigns countered with a powerbomb. Reigns told Cody, “this is my company you little b*tch!”

* Cody and Reigns traded kicks and then both went down from a double clothesline. The two got up and traded shots. Reigns hit Cody with a Cross Rhodes but Cody kicked out. Reigns yelled, “that move sucks!”

* The fight went outside and Reigns powerbombed Cody through the announce table. Reigns got Cody back in the ring and nailed a superman punch. Cody came back with a Cody cutter followed by a spear but Reigns kicked out.

* Cody went for Cross Rhodes but Jimmy attacked him. Jey then ran down to make the save. They fought on the stage and Jey speared Jimmy off the stage.

* Reigns hit a spear but Cody kicked out. They fought on the outside again and Cody speared Reigns through the barricade. The crowd started a “this is awesome” chant. Cody hit Cross Rhodes but then Solo Sikoa hit Cody with a Samoan spike. Solo put Reigns on top of Cody but Cody kicked out. Solo and Reigns hit the Spike/Spear combo but Cody still kicked out. John Cena then appeared and made the save for Cody. Cena give Reigns an AA and then put Solo through a table.

* The Rock then arrived to confront Cena. Rock ended up giving Cena a Rock Bottom. Seth Rollins, in Shield gear, tried to attack Rock but Reigns speared Rollins.

* The Undertaker then appeared and chokeslammed The Rock.

* It was back to Reigns and Cody alone. Reigns hit Rollins with a steel chair. However, Cody then hit Reigns with multiple Cross Rhodes finishers and pinned him to win the title. Numerous people including Cena, Jey, Randy Orton, LA Knight, CM Punk, and Cody’s mom came into the ring to celebrate his victory. Cody presented the WWE title to his mom.

* After the match, Cody had Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Bruce Prichard come to the ring for the celebration. Cody shook hands with Rollins and the ring cleared for Cody to soak in the moment with fans as pyro went off. Cody went around ringside and shook hands with fans.
