LA Knight vs. The Miz took place at the WWE Payback 2023 PLE. Here are the highlights…

* Before the match, John Cena came to the ring. Cena put over the Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus match and being the host of Payback. Cena said his job was to make Payback special and he decided to be special guest referee for LA Knight and The Miz. Miz came to the ring and expressed his displeasure with the situation. Cena asked for advice and Miz said Cena needed to be more involved. Cena said he was more involved and revealed a referee shirt. Cena on the shirt, said “yeah” and then introduced Knight.

* The crowd chanted for Knight as The Miz hesitated in entering the ring to start the match. Miz got in the ring, the bell rang and he slipped back to the outside. The Miz tried to leave the ringside area but Knight caught him and sent him into the ring.

* The two fought on the outside and Miz got the upper hand by sending Knight into the announce table. Miz also sent Knight into the barricade. Knight fought back and jumped off the barricade with a clothesline to Miz.

* Miz regained the upper hand but didn’t listen to Cena’s five count and Cena pulled Miz out of the corner. Cena was fair and did the same thing to Knight. Things did get heated between Cena and Knight. Miz took advantage of the situation and attacked Knight from behind.

* Miz mocked John Cena’s five knuckle shuffle and Knight took advantage of the situation. Knight hit the Blunt Force Trauma to score the pinfall victory. Cena raised Knight’s hand after the match.
