Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton in the King of the Ring tournament final took place at WWE Night of Champions 2025. Here are the highlights…

* The fans sang the entrance themes for both men. There was a feeling-out process as both men soaked in the crowd’s reactions. Orton delivered a superplex in the early minutes but then began selling his back. Cody took advantage and hit a Disaster Kick on Orton. Cody received boos for using the ring post to work over Orton’s back. Cody hit a cutter followed by an avalanche cutter, but Orton kicked out.

* Orton shifted the momentum in his favor with a draping DDT. Cody countered an RKO with a Cross Rhodes, but Orton managed to kick out again. Orton recovered and delivered an RKO out of nowhere, but Cody kicked out. After dodging a punt kick, Cody applied a figure four leglock.

* The two traded blows. Orton countered another cutter attempt with an RKO, but Cody kicked out. Orton brought a steel chair into the ring. When the referee took it away, Orton exposed the top turnbuckle. Orton ended up being sent into the exposed turnbuckle, and Cody won with another Cross Rhodes.

* With his win, Cody will face the WWE Champion at SummerSlam. After the match, Cody was interviewed by Bryon Saxton. Cody gave a shout-out to Orton and then said he will “get the ball back” at SummerSlam.
