Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton took place at the WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6th 2026. Here are the highlights…

Orton attempted a sneak attack during the entrances, but Cody caught him. Cody brawled with Orton into the crowd before the match officially started. Cody and Orton used trash cans as weapons against each other.

After they returned to ringside, Orton threw Cody into the steel steps. Orton taunted Cody’s wife and mother at ringside. Once Orton entered the ring, the match officially started, and Cody was able to fight back.

Orton regained the advantage but then taunted Cody’s wife, Brandi, again, and she responded by throwing her drink in his face. Cody made a comeback, delivering several moves, but Orton was able to avoid Cross Rhodes. Cody finally hit Cross Rhodes after countering the RKO, but Orton kicked out.

After the referee was accidentally knocked down, Orton hit the RKO on Cody. Orton went for the Punt but missed, and Cody connected with another Cross Rhodes. When the two went back to fighting on the outside, the referee was struck again. Cody took advantage of the situation by hitting Orton with the steel steps, causing Orton to be busted open.

Back in the ring, Cody hit a Super Cody Cutter followed by multiple Cross Rhodes. Cody went for a Punt but stopped when Orton begged for mercy. After another referee showed up, Orton delivered a low blow that knocked both Cody and the referee down. Orton hit another RKO, and the first referee counted Cody out to give Orton the victory.
