Results of Bryan Danielson vs. MJF in an iron man match at AEW Revolution 2023

MJF (c) vs. Bryan Danielson in a one hour iron man match for the AEW world title took place at AEW Revolution 2023. Here are the highlights…

* MJF had a special entrance with a string ensemble while wearing his devil mask. The two had a feeling out process and MJF slipped to the outside. MJF got back in the ring and Bryan took control with various mat holds. MJF escaped and Bryan mocked MJF with some jumping jacks. The match started to go back and forth and both kipped up at the same time which led to an “AEW” chant. MJF went for a handshake which Bryan kicked away and MJF went back to the outside. MJF looked at the camera and said, “is this going to cost me a star, Dave?” MJF also threw a drink into the face of a young child at ringside.

* MJF took control and targeted the shoulder of Bryan. Bryan started to make a comeback after hitting a sunset flip powerbomb around the 15 minute mark but it was short lived. MJF went for a moonsault to the outside but buckled his knee. However, MJF was able to recover and regained momentum.

* Around 23 minutes in, the two exchanged numerous nearfalls and the crowded gave them a standing ovation as both were down. Bryan was then able to hit the running knee at around 25 minutes in to score the first pinfall.

* MJF hit a low blow which caused a disqualification but was then able to score two straight pinfalls to tie things up at 2-2. MJF took a water break on the outside.

* At the 30 minute mark, the two brawled on the outside and Bryan caught MJF with a running knee into the barricade. The crowd started a “this is awesome” chant as Bryan targeted the knee of MJF. Bryan put MJF in a submission and MJF screamed, “I hate you!” MJF escaped the submission and they fought on the outside of the ring again. MJF placed Bryan on the announce table and then put Bryan through it with a flying elbow drop off the top rope. Bryan barely managed to beat the 10 count back into the ring.

* MJF took Bryan back to the outside and gave Bryan a piledriver onto the broken table but was selling his knee again. Bryan was busted open and back in the ring, MJF hit the heatseeker and scored the pinfall to take the 3-2 lead. MJF took another water break. MJF started trash talking and said “you f*cking suck” to Bryan. MJF continued to deliver punishment to Bryan as the match reached the 45 minute mark.

* Bryan managed to hit a diving headbutt that busted open MJF. However, Bryan was unable to score a pinfall on MJF. Bryan hit the running knee and then tapped out MJF to tie things up 3-3.

* With less than 10 minutes left, the two exchanged their signature submission holds. MJF was on the verge of another decision but Bryan got his foot on the rope. The two traded “boo/yay” shots on their knees and then got to their feet and continued exchanging shots as the crowd gave them a “this is awesome” chant.

* MJF hit another heetseeker with less than four minutes left but Bryan kicked out. MJF then hit an avalanche tombstone piledriver but couldn’t make the cover because of his knee. With about a minute left, Bryan applied a single leg crab. MJF almost tapped out but stopped himself and time ran out with the match tied. MJF tapped out after the bell rang.

* After the match ended, officials were checking on both men and MJF was given oxygen. Tony Schiavone was told something and came to the ring. Tony told Justin Roberts that Tony Khan wanted a clear winner and the match would be going into sudden death.

* Bryan rolled up MJF and almost won. MJF hit a low blow while the referee was distracted but Bryan kicked out. MJF grabbed the AEW title but gave it back to the referee. MJF tried to use ring but Bryan countered with a reverse hurricanrana. Bryan then hit the running knee but MJF kicked out.

* Bryan applied the half crab again and the referee took away the diamond ring. MJF grabbed the rope and then tapped out. Bryan heard the tap and thought he won. MJF grabbed the oxygen can on the outside of the ring and hit Bryan when the referee wasn’t looking. MJF applied Bryan’s own submission and Bryan kept fighting but eventually had to tap out. MJF won 4-3 following sudden death.
