Report on Warner Brothers Discovery’s reaction to AEW Dynamite viewership from 4/24/24

The April 24th 2024 edition of AEW Dynamite drew 683,000 viewers with a 0.23 (309,000 viewers) rating in the 18-49 demo. It was the lowest overall viewership number in Dynamite’s normal time slot since January 13th 2021.

Despite the low numbers, Mike Johsnon of PWInsider.com was told from a Warner Brothers Discovery source that the company was actually “really happy” with Dynamite’s viewership. The source pointed out that Dynamite was still 6th for the evening on basic cable despite competition from the NBA and NHL Playoffs. Via Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics.com, here were the rankings…

#1. Pelicans vs. Thunder on TNT: 0.99 P18-49 rating; 2.81M total viewers
#2. Heat vs. Celtics on TNT: 0.95; 2.86M
#3. Bruins vs. Maple Leafs on ESPN: 0.38; 1.24M
#4. Golden Knights vs. Stars on ESPN: 0.36; 1.00M
#5. Inside the NBA on TNT: 0.35; 1.11M
#6. AEW Dynamite on TBS: 0.23; 683k

Johnson wrote the following…

“The source also noted that with the West Coast feed not airing at 8 PM Pacific due to the NBA coverage and the audio issues that TBS were having (which we are told happened at the TBS uplink itself, not from AEW’s end), there were additional obstacles that AEW could not control and that internally, WBD were good with the numbers when they came in – and that they expect those numbers to be even better when they factor in the +3 and +7 viewings via DVRs, etc.”
