News regarding Samoa Joe’s AEW world title win over MJF at the 2023 Worlds End PPV event
As seen during the 2023 AEW Worlds End PPV event, Samoa Joe defeated MJF to become the new world champion. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com commented on if MJF being injured played a role in the booking decision…
“Even before Maxwell got hurt, Joe was always going to win the title on this show. The title did not change hands because he’s hurt. It was always the plan.”
During the post-show media scrum, Joe teased a title match against Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page. Joe also commented on getting rid of MJF’s title design…
“Oh, this is going in the garbage, don’t worry about that. This trash right here. This little knockoff Gucci stuff that he got going on, it’s going away. We got the good belt, the right belt, something that’s designed well. I spoke with Tony Khan intensely about it, and we’re very much looking forward to it. (quotes courtesy of RingsideNews.com)
