News regarding Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman convincing WWE to change finish of Wrestlemania 39 match
As seen during the WWE Wrestlemania 40 Sunday PLE, Cody Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns to become the Undisputed WWE Unviersal champion. After the event, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that the original plan was for Cody to defeat Reigns at Wrestlemania 39 but Vince McMahon made the final call to delay the title change. However, Paul “Triple H” Levesque was said to have agreed with Vince.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer wrote about people within WWE wanting Cody to get his rematch against Reigns at Wrestlemania 40 instead of Reigns vs. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Meltzer stated the following….
“One of the reasons so many in WWE were pushing for Rhodes to face Reigns, besides that they had promised it to Rhodes when Reigns and Paul Heyman convinced both Vince McMahon and Paul Levesque last year to change the finish because they believed it would be more beneficial in getting people like Jey Uso and Solo Sikoa over as well as many others and make Rhodes a bigger star to hold off the switch for a year.”
