Malakai Black is reportedly a free agent and can legally make a return to WWE

Last month, reports came out that Malakai Black was “done” with AEW and could be returning to WWE when legally able to do so.

In an update on Black, he was removed from AEW’s roster webpage and Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com confirmed that he’s officially a free agent. Black’s deal with AEW reportedly expired on February 9th 2025.

Johnson noted the following…

“Black, a former WWE NXT Champion, signed with AEW in 2021 after WWE, then being overseen by Vince McMahon, released him. Black was pushed heavily by Paul Levesque [Triple H] in NXT and one would think WWE is the most likely landing place for him.”
