Conflicting reports regarding Matt Riddle and the 2022 men’s Royal Rumble

It was previously reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com that Matt Riddle was initially the “frontrunner” to win the 2022 men’s WWE Royal Rumble match until the decision was made to go with Brcok Lesnar as the winner.

However, there are now reports that conflict with Johnson stated. Steve Carrier of RingsideNews.com, who broke the stories that Bad Bunny and Shane McMahon would be in the Rumble, wrote the following…

“A report is going around saying that Matt Riddle was originally slated to win the 2022 Men’s Royal Rumble match. We are told this is false.

The creative team was told that Brock Lesnar was the winner ‘two weeks prior to the Royal Rumble.’

It was never Riddle.”

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com wrote that “those that Fightful has spoken to had never heard Riddle was to win the Royal Rumble.” Louis Dangoor of GiveMeSport.com also noted the following…

“From what I’ve been told, Riddle was never slated to win the WWE Royal Rumble match on Saturday night. His name may have been thrown out (like many others), but he was never pencilled in as the winner of the match. It was going to be Brock Lesnar for at least three weeks now.”
