Cody Rhodes possibly dealing with a “pretty serious” injury
As Saturday night’s WWE live event in Champaign, Illinois, Cody Rhodes had been scheduled to compete against Seth Rollins. However, it was announced that Rhodes had been attacked by Rollins and Drew McIntyre ended up being Rhodes’ replacement. After McIntyre won the match, Rhodes chased Rollins around the ringside area.
During the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast, Dave Meltzer had details on the situation…
“Cody was injured lifting weights. From what I gather, it’s a pretty serious injury. My impression is that he is working the match tonight with the injury and I guess will get it taken care of later. The injury is legit. Everything that I heard was that he was working tonight. The doctors may say you can’t, I don’t know. It’s not an in-ring injury, it was a weightlifting injury.” (quote courtesy of WrestlingNews.co)
Meltzer also said the following during Wrestling Observer Radio…
“The story going around backstage last night in Champaign, Illinois is that he tore his pec. I don’t know that 100 percent [if] that is the injury. That’s definitely the story going around. That’s what multiple wrestlers were saying last night, and Cody was there, so he probably told them.”
Twitter account @WrestleVotes noted the following…
“Unfortunately, the Cody Rhodes injury news going around is accurate. He is still scheduled to work tonight’s HIAC event, w/ the severity of the injury still being determined. I’m told plans for the match have been changing all day long. Feel terrible for Cody.”

On Sunday, Rhodes promoted his Hell in a Cell match against Rollins so the match appears to be taking place as scheduled.
