Breaking news: Kenny Omega defeats MJF to win at the AEW World Title

In the main event of the July 8th 2026 edition of AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega defeated MJF to win the AEW World Championship. The match carried major stakes, as Omega would have been permanently barred from challenging for the title again if he had lost.

The two brawled throughout the arena, including in the crowd and near the stage. In one of the match’s biggest moments, Omega hit a V-Trigger that sent MJF head-first through the announce desk.

Late in the match, MJF attempted to use the AEW World Championship belt as a weapon, but the referee confiscated it. MJF then reached for his Dynamite Diamond Ring, only for Will Ospreay to intervene and take it away.

Omega picked up the championship belt himself, but MJF pleaded with him before delivering a low blow and striking Omega with the title. MJF covered Omega, but he kicked out at one.

Omega rallied with multiple V-Triggers before hitting the One Winged Angel to score the pinfall and capture the AEW World Championship.
