Backstage news regarding Sting’s retirement match at the 2024 AEW Revolution PPV event
As seen during the 2024 AEW Revolution PPV event, Sting and Darby Allin defeated The Young Bucks in Sting’s retirement match. After the show, it was confirmed by AEW President Tony Khan that the tag team titles are now vacated and a tournament will take place to crown new champions.
Fightful Select noted the following in regards to the decision to have Sting win his final match…
“AEW sources had indicated that the idea for the Young Bucks to emerge without winning was made weeks ago, but that they were planned to remain near the tag team title picture. We’re told that All Elite Wrestling and Tony Khan were adamant that Sting go out on top, and as a champion. Fightful has long been told from those within the company that honoring Sting appropriately was important to management there.”
Numerous wrestlers were backstage at the event for Sting’s retirement match including Lex Luger.
