Backstage news regarding participants for the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match

As previously noted, several names were announced for the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match during the January 7th 2022 edition of WWE Smackdown.

According to Fightful Select, it’s believed that WWE announced the names in advance to boost ticket sales and increase buzz for the Rumble event. It was noted that WWE would previously contact people about the Rumble match close to the event but the company decided to give more advance notice this year. There were multiple wrestlers that believed they were going to be surprise entrants and Summer Rae was one that publicly commented on the matter. It was also said that there are “plenty of room for more surprises and likely will be” with WWE considering additional names to those that have already been contacted.

Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com said the following regarding NXT stars possibly being the 2022 women’s Rumble match…

“I was told, and you know when you’re told something by WWE you can report it but what you’re told yesterday is not the same as actually happens often. But I was told that they didn’t really want to use a lot of women from NXT. That’s probably changed by now as they have 11 women remaining.” (quote courtesy of WrestlingNews.co)
