A pitch was reportedly made for Steve Austin to be Brock Lesnar’s opponent at WWE Wrestlemania 39
As previously noted, WWE reportedly made Steve Austin a “huge money” offer for a match against undisputed WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns for Wrestlemania 39.
During Wrestling Observer Radio it was said that Reigns was not actually the opponent pitched to Austin for Wrestlemania 39. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted the following…
“It was Brock Lesnar. It’s not on. It’s been talked about probably for months, because I know when that Brock Lesnar/GUNTHER thing came up, I was told immediately, ‘That’s not happening’, or, ‘That’s not the idea right now’. Maybe it’s gonna happen now. But the idea was something that’s a secret. So Austin was that secret. The match is not on and it looks like it’s gonna be Lesnar with Lashley based on the show tonight.” (quote courtesy of WrestleTalk.com)
Meltzer added that Lesnar vs. Lashley hasn’t been confirmed for Wrestlemania 39 but appears to be the direction.
