John Cena on the John Cena Classic: “I don’t know if it is going to work, I’m still taking bold chances in the WWE space”
During the 2026 WWE Backlash PLE, John Cena announced the first-ever “John Cena Classic” — the best of today vs. the best of tomorrow. Cena confirmed that there will be a new event and a new championship. The fans will also determine the winner through a voting process.
While speaking to Today, Cena commented on the upcoming event…
“This year in December, I’m excited about announcing the John Cena Classic.
We will do an event based off all of the memory, the nostalgia, and the IP and core values of the character, which is me: hustle, loyalty, respect, perseverance, virtue, you know, overcoming the odds, and giving the vote to the people.
Our audience will decide our champion on that night. It is a unique live event.
I don’t know if it is going to work.
I’m still taking bold chances in the WWE space, and I’m proud to be helping the John Cena Classic.”
