Backstage news regarding Trick Williams losing the United States title to Baron Corbin

As seen during the 2026 WWE SummerSlam PLE, Baron Corbin defeated Trick Williams to win the United States title in his first televised match since returning to the company. According to WrestleVotes Radio, WWE did not originally plan for Trick to lose the custom white-fur U.S. championship just weeks after unveiling it on the July 10th edition of SmackDown.

Sources indicated that while the title was being designed and developed, there was no internal expectation that it would be taken off Trick only three weeks later. The decision to have Baron Corbin win the belt reportedly came together only recently, with several people backstage surprised by the late change in plans.

It was also speculated that Corbin could continue carrying the custom white-fur championship to taunt Trick, potentially setting the stage for him to reclaim both the title and the custom belt in the future.

While speaking to ESPN Houston, Trick said the following in regards to his future plans…

“Look, man. I got some retribution to do. And what does that look like? I’m not sure yet. Do I want the United States Championship? Maybe. Do I want something different? I had an encounter with CM Punk the night before, so I’m not sure exactly where I’m going to set my attention.”

“I mean, nothing but respect for CM Punk. He’s a GOAT, and anytime you can share the ring with somebody who’s done legendary things and had legendary moments, you want to stand next to legends as much as possible. So, yeah, I would love that match with CM Punk.”
