CM Punk addresses his match with Cody Rhodes not being the main event of SummerSlam Saturday
As seen during the 2026 WWE SummerSlam Saturday PLE, CM Punk defeated Cody Rhodes to retain his WWE Championship. After the show, Big E asked Punk if he had any feelings when he found out that he would not be in the main event. Here was Punk’s response…
“Of course I had feelings about that, but I’m not one of these guys that has it in their contract that I have to end the show.
Listen, ladies and gentlemen, there’s a main event and there’s this— there’s the match that goes last, right? It ain’t for me to decide. I’m too old for that. I’m just gonna lace my boots up and beat somebody’s ass. That’s all I know.
Whether I’m first, whether I’m before intermission, whether I’m the popcorn match, I’m semi-main, I mean, CM Punk is always the main event.”
