Kenny Omega issues statement following his AEW world title victory over MJF
As seen during the July 9th 2026 edition of AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega defeated MJF to win the AEW world title. After the match, Omega issued the following statement to fans in attendance…
“There’s an old saying that if anyone could be a professional wrestler, if anybody could be a champion so easily, then heck, probably everyone would do it.
But the truth is, none of this came easy. I could never have done it without the support of the people who are my friends, my family, who could have at any point kicked me out of my house and forced me to follow a different dream. But I always had the support not just of my friends, not just of my family, but my inherited family—and that means each and every one of you.
Now, I can’t lie, holding this belt just doesn’t quite seem proper. But holding what it represents, the AEW World Championship, now that means the world.
So from now until someone is good enough, someone is willing to sacrifice enough, someone is willing to push hard enough, this right here is going to stay around my waist. I can promise you that I may be nearer the end than I am the beginning of this journey, but what counts is that you finish hard and you finish the race. No matter how hard everything is, you finish the race.
That being said, MJF, I will give you credit. You never had to take this match. You never had to defend the belt as much as you did. You never had to show up every single week, but you did. And as far as I’m concerned, that sets a good example.
MJF, not only will I be the best champion I can be, but I’ll be a champion that even you are jealous of.
So until next time, which is probably going to be next week, I must bid you adieu. So goodbye, everyone, and good night – bang!”
