Tony Khan on WWE spreading rumors: “I’ve been trying to be respectful to them – I’ll just turn the other cheek”
Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW’s media rights situation when its current deal expires in 2027 could become a major story, amid questions about whether Paramount Global and Skydance Media will keep AEW despite the promotion being a strong, cost-effective performer on TBS with added PPV revenue benefits. Meltzer wrote, “We’ve heard from people in WWE, one of whom said that they realize that decision hasn’t been made and basically the same stuff we’ve said and that everyone following this seems to agree on, that nobody even knows when the merger is going through nor who will even be making the decisions regarding AEW if and when it does.”
While speaking to media after the ROH Supercard of Honor event, AEW President Tony Khan stated the following…
“I saw a report today that somebody in WWE is telling people within WWE talking about AEW’s next TV deal and talking about what we’re doing. And I was surprised by that. And all I’ll say is what they said is— what they said could not be further from the truth. They’re entitled to their opinions.
I’ve been trying to be respectful to them and try to conduct myself as a gentleman and then for them to go on background and spread these things, I’ll just turn the other cheek. And maybe a couple years ago I wouldn’t have done it like that.”
Khan later addressed his response in a post via Twitter/X…
“I have both gained experience over time working in wrestling and sports, and I’ve rediscovered what it means to turn the other cheek, because of reinvigorating my faith in Jesus in recent years.”
