Popular Attitude Era segment removed from the WWE Network

As previously noted, Peacock has begun removing content that has been deemed offensive from the service’s version of the WWE Network. Last week, Vince McMahon’s segment with John Cena from the 2005 Survivor Series PPV and Roddy Piper vs. Bad News Brown from Wrestlemania 6 were removed from Peacock’s version of the WWE Network. The original WWE Network also removed the same footage.

In an update, the original WWE Network has removed D-Generation X’s parody of the Nation from the July 6th, 1998 episode of RAW. When you scroll through the episode, the thumbnails are still shown but the actual footage is gone. This episode of RAW is not yet available on Peacock.

The segment, which was popular with fans at the time, was likely pulled due to X-Pac dressing up like Mark Henry while wearing blackface.

In an interview with Uproxx.com from 2017, X-Pac commented on the segment…

“Actually, the only thing that I can honestly say I really regret now is the blackface thing. I did not understand. Here’s the thing: I consider myself pretty well, for somebody that didn’t go to high school, pretty well educated. I know a lot of things, but I never saw an actual minstrel show, blackface thing. Recently, I saw something about it and I was horrified, horrified at how mean-spirited all that stuff was. I look at it way different now.”

WWE recently issued a brief statement to NYTimes.com regarding the removal of questionable content…

“Peacock and WWE are reviewing all past content to ensure it fits our 2021 standards.”
