Ricochet on WWE: “I feel like the biggest misconception is that I didn’t enjoy my time there at all”
Earlier this month, AEW star Ricochet criticized WWE on Twitter/X by saying the company “kills legacies and love of the sport.” Ricochet wrote in one post, “I’d argue El Generico has a better legacy than Sami Zayn.”
While speaking to Josh Martinez, Ricochet addressed his previous comments about WWE…
“I feel like the biggest misconception is that I didn’t enjoy my time there at all.
Obviously, I had five years there—great memories, great friends, great moments that I feel like I was able to make. A lot of those moments were things I had to physically go out and create for myself, because with the opportunities I was given, that was my way of making them count. But still, I had a great time there. I made great connections. I still have friends over there that I talk to every day—people I literally talked to today.
So yeah, the misconception would be that I didn’t enjoy my time there, which obviously isn’t true.
Even with Big E, I remember sitting in the back with him—not breaking down—but really opening up about my problems and how I was feeling. He was right there with me. He knew exactly how I felt and he talked me through it. Not like he talked me off a ledge or anything, but he calmed me down when I was getting riled up. So again, great times, great friends, great memories.
At the end of the day, though, I always talk specifically about wrestling. Even with the ‘others’ thing, I said specifically the wrestling aspect—that’s what I was talking about. Not popularity, not any of the other stuff. But people hear what they want to hear and run with that.
I just feel like it wasn’t the right fit for me. It wasn’t where I felt like Ricochet’s fans were getting the most out of Ricochet. The people who’ve been following me since IWA Mid-South—they’ll tell me straight up, ‘We liked what you were doing before more than what you’re doing now.’
So for myself—and specifically for the Ricochet fans out there—I knew it just wasn’t it. You know what I’m saying?”
