My problems with the 2025 WWE WarGames matches

Survivor Series is just around the corner, and with that comes yet another set of WarGames matches. While I do have problems with the card being as short as it is for a big stadium show—and for what’s still considered part of the Big Four—I don’t really see any issue with the undercard. Even though the three matches feel rushed and predictable, it doesn’t matter if they deliver, which I think they will. But I do have some problems with the WarGames matches feeling rushed (especially the women’s match) and not feeling as special as they once were.

First, I don’t have many problems with the men’s match, as they at least have a feud that has lasted long enough to warrant this type of match, and the build was done pretty well. My only problem is that I just don’t care about the feud. The Vision without Seth just doesn’t make sense to me. He was the main reason for the Vision fighting Reigns, Punk, and the Usos. Nothing against Logan, but he really feels like a last-minute replacement for Rollins, and it doesn’t have the same impact since he had nothing to do with any of them before being forced into this angle a few weeks ago.

In the end, while I understand the reason for this match and it will probably be the better of the two, I just can’t really get into it.

Then you have the women’s WarGames match. My main question is: why do the women even have a WarGames match this year? The match truly feels rushed and done only for the sake of doing it. Look at the participants.

First, you have the feud between Charlotte and Alexa against Lash and Nia—a feud that started only a few weeks ago. Does that scream “blood feud that needs WarGames”? Not really. It hasn’t lasted long enough to actually care about the rivalry or understand why they hate each other.

Then we move on to Becky and AJ Lee. This feud started in September but was put on the shelf for two months after AJ beat Becky at WrestlePalooza. The fact that Becky never mentioned Lee after losing that tag match and focused so much on Maxxine made fans think the feud was over. Then AJ returned last week and was added to the match alongside Becky mostly because they didn’t know who else to put in. So these two are basically restarting a feud, and it makes no sense for them to be involved in a WarGames match—especially if the feud continues into Mania season.

Finally, you have the last four participants: Rhea Ripley, IYO SKY, and the Kabuki Warriors. I love all four of them, and there’s a lot of talent here, but what are they doing with IYO? She used to be a super-edgy, cocky, no-nonsense character. Now she looks like an anime little girl in love with her bigger friend, Rhea, as if she can’t fight her own battles anymore. The other problem is that it feels like every year WWE tries to find a way to include IYO in this match—even when it makes no sense—just so she can do the same spot off the top of the cage with the trash can, which fans are getting tired of.

IYO is the only woman in WWE to have been in every women’s WarGames match, and she has done that spot every time, to the point where it’s becoming a joke, in my opinion.

So again, why does this match even exist outside of “equality”? It was thrown together because they wanted to have two WarGames matches, and that’s my biggest problem with it.

The point of WarGames is to end a feud that nothing else can settle when multiple wrestlers are involved. Now, especially in this case, it only exists because it’s that time of year and they feel the need to do one, which diminishes the match as a feud-ender. That’s going to hurt the gimmick overall, as it will start to feel like just another match that happens because it’s Survivor Series.

In the end, saying that I’m not excited about WarGames is an understatement. Both matches feel rushed and have elements that were forced in just to justify having them, instead of being matches that stemmed from feuds that truly needed this stipulation.

I hope I’m wrong and that both matches deliver, but I’m just not feeling them—especially the women’s match—and I don’t have high expectations of them being memorable.
