Results of Gunther vs. Bill Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event from July 12th 2025

Gunther (c) vs. Bill Goldberg for the world heavyweight title in Goldberg’s retirement match took place at the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th 2025. Here are the highlights…

Goldberg walked backstage for his entrance accompanied by several notable people, including his son Gage, former WCW head of security Doug Dellinger, and Ernest “The Cat” Miller.

Goldberg overpowered Gunther in the early moments. Gunther attempted to chop Goldberg, but Goldberg laughed it off. Goldberg delivered offense and went for a spear, but Gunther slipped to the outside of the ring. Goldberg attempted another spear but missed and crashed through the barricade.

After the break, Gunther targeted Goldberg’s knee. Goldberg countered a powerbomb and attempted a spear but accidentally hit the referee. Gunther ripped off Goldberg’s protective knee brace and used it as a weapon.

Gunther taunted Goldberg’s son at ringside. When Gunther returned to the ring, Goldberg took him down with a spear. Goldberg delivered a Jackhammer, and a second referee came down, but Gunther kicked out. Goldberg’s leg gave out, and Gunther applied a sleeper hold. Goldberg tried to fight but eventually passed out, and Gunther was declared the winner.

After the match, Goldberg was surrounded in the ring by friends and family. Goldberg apologized for losing but thanked everyone. Goldberg said he couldn’t have done it without them.
