Jey Uso’s reign as WWE world heavyweight champion was reportedly planned to be short

As seen during the June 9th 2025 edition of WWE RAW, Jey Uso lost the world heavyweight title against Gunther in a rematch from WrestleMania 41. Gunther is now scheduled to defend the title against Bill Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted the following…

“Regarding Gunther winning the title last week, it should be noted that when the decision was made to put the title on Uso, it had already been decided it would be short reign and that he would lose it back to Gunther. I’m not sure if the Raw in Phoenix was always the day but it was to be before the Goldberg retirement match, which was planned for going head-to-head with All In Texas on 7/12.”

There has reportedly been talk of Jey and his brother Jimmy potentially reuniting The Usos tag team. Cory Hays of Bodyslam.net noted the following via Twitter/X after Jey lost the world title…

“There were rumblings that WWE was looking to pair The Usos back together sometime this year and with Jey dropping the World Heavyweight Championship it’s looking like that could be the direction. The question is how does WWE get them back together in a story on TV.”
