News regarding an idea for the 2025 AEW Revolution main event that wasn’t used
As seen during the 2025 AEW Revolution PPV event, Jon Moxley retained his world title against Cope and Christian Cage. Christian had added himself to the match with his world title contract.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com stated the following about the match…
“I don’t know all of the details, but there was apparently some idea for the main event that involved way more people than ending up being out there, including some returns. At the last minute it just got axed. I don’t know who it was or what they were going to do but there was a second plan that didn’t take place. I would say I’m 99% sure no matter what was planned before or after Moxley was always retaining and he was always going on to face Swerve at the next pay-per-view.” (quote courtesy of WrestlingInc.com)
Fightful.com noted that Killswitch, who had been aligned with Christian until he was hospitalized with pneumonia in both lungs, was backstage at Revolution. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported the following…
“There was talk about Killswitch being brought back at the PPV and being involved in the main event finish in some form. Not sure what happened but they went with a different idea.”
