Rey Fenix is reportedly a free agent and is “all but certain” to be WWE bound
It was reported in August of 2024 that sources in AEW expected The Lucha Brothers (Penta and Rey Fenix) to leave the company when their contracts expired with the belief being that they would join WWE. However, it was later stated that AEW President Tony Khan decided to “tack on injury time” to Fenix’s contract.
On Monday, Fenix was officially removed from the AEW roster page. Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com was able to confirm that Fenix is now a free agent. Johnson also noted the following…
“Fenix had been expected to depart AEW last year and likely head to WWE, but additional time was added to his contract based on a period of time he was out injured. Fenix has been vocal on social media about wanting to exit, but later deleted those Tweets. It’s all but certain he’s WWE bound.”
Last week, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com stated that WWE was “making plans” for Fenix. There has been internet speculation about Fenix reuniting with Penta to go against Ludwig Kaiser and Pete Dunne. Twitter account @WrestleVotes noted the following…
“Spoke with a WWE source regarding the Rey Fenix news making the rounds. With him being free and clear, the expectation backstage is that he joins WWE sooner rather than later. Source added they wouldn’t be surprised if Fenix ends up on the WM card but noted there’s no exact timeline in place.”
