WWE Survivor Series and TNA Turning Point 2024 previews
This weekend, WWE and TNA both have a PPV event. Since I took advantage of TNA’s offer for a free month of TNA+, I’ll be watching Turning Point this weekend. I thought I’d preview both Turning Point and Survivor Series.
A Quick Note on Raw’s Big Announcement
Before diving into the previews, I want to briefly touch on the big announcement from Raw last night: WWE is introducing a midcard title for the women’s division, which I actually predicted three weeks ago in my column about the Women’s U.S. Title. My thoughts remain the same: it’s a great idea. With Raw returning to a 3-hour format in January, this title will give midcard women something to compete for.
As for who I think should be the first Intercontinental Champion, it’s hard to predict, but here are four potential winners and my thoughts on each:
Natalya: She’s been the workhorse of the women’s division for over a decade. Giving her this accolade would be a fitting tribute to her contributions.
Lyra Valkyria: She needs a big win. She’s come close to winning major matches only to fall short at the end. Plus, she’s one of the few NXT stars who’s still over on the main roster.
Shayna Baszler: If WWE wants to crown a heel champion, Baszler is the best choice. Her faction with Zoey Stark and Sonya Deville needs rehabilitation, and this would be a great start.
Ivy Nile: This is my wildcard pick. It would be intriguing to see how Chad Gable might react if Nile captured the title.
TNA Turning Point 2024
TNA X-Division Championship Match: Moose (C) vs. Laredo Kid
This will likely be a showcase match for Moose’s first title defense. Laredo Kid will look strong as the underdog, but Moose will ultimately dominate and retain the title.
Frankie Kazarian vs. Mike Santana
This match came out of nowhere, but given the talent involved, it should be excellent. It could go either way, but I predict Santana will win to solidify his rise toward the main title picture.
No DQ Match: Steve Maclin vs. Josh Alexander
This feud has been fantastic, albeit one-sided at times. Since this is likely the blow-off match, I think Maclin needs—and will get—the win, especially if the rumors about Alexander leaving TNA at year’s end are true.
The Hardys & Ace Austin vs. The Rascalz & Kushida
This feels like a card-filler, but it should still be entertaining. I’ll pick The Hardys and Ace Austin to win since they’re champions and need momentum heading into 2024.
6-Way Turkey Bowl Match: Joe Hendry vs. Eric Young vs. Hammerstone vs. PCO vs. Brian Myers vs. John Skyler
This comedy match ends with someone in a turkey suit. Predictably, Skyler, the “job guy,” will probably end up in the suit. As for the winner, I’ll go with Hendry, as he needs to regain momentum after losing two big title matches in a row.
TNA Knockouts Championship Match: Masha Slamovich (C) vs. Jordynne Grace
These two stole the show at Bound for Glory and will likely do so again here. With Grace potentially heading to NXT full-time, Slamovich retaining makes sense. Grace will put her over big, solidifying Slamovich as the top Knockout.
TNA Championship Match: Nick Nemeth (C) vs. Eddie Edwards
This should be another excellent match to close the show. Nemeth will likely retain as TNA builds toward his rematch with Hendry, plus there’s the Kazarian side feud to address.
WWE Survivor Series
Women’s WarGames Match: Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, IYO SKY, Naomi, & Bayley vs. Liv Morgan, Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton, Candice LeRae, & Raquel Rodriguez
While all ten competitors are talented, this match feels a bit forced. There doesn’t seem to be a major grudge that necessitates a WarGames match. That said, it should deliver in the ring. I predict the faces will win, with Rhea Ripley finally getting some revenge on Liv Morgan.
Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Match: Sheamus vs. Ludwig Kaiser vs. Bron Breakker (C)
Though I’m growing tired of the Sheamus vs. Ludwig Kaiser feud, they always deliver great matches. Adding Bron Breakker will increase the intensity. While I’d love for Sheamus to win, I think Breakker retains by pinning Kaiser.
United States Championship Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. LA Knight (C)
This feud came out of nowhere, but I like the build so far. Nakamura’s new look makes him feel more devious than ever. This could be a great match, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Nakamura beats Knight for the title.
World Championship Match: Gunther (C) vs. Damian Priest
The build started slow but has picked up steam. Gunther has been outsmarted by Priest in recent weeks, which sets up a strong match. Ultimately, I see Gunther retaining.
Men’s WarGames Match: The OG Bloodline & CM Punk vs. The New Bloodline & Bronson Reed
This has been an awesome build, and adding Punk makes it even more intriguing. Will Heyman and Punk turn on Reigns? I don’t think so—at least not during the match. I predict the OG Bloodline wins, with a post-match angle where Heyman betrays Reigns and possibly aligns with the New Bloodline (or Brock Lesnar makes a surprise comeback).
In conclusion, it’s shaping up to be another exciting weekend for wrestling fans. I can’t wait to see how both shows deliver!
