Segment with MJF and Renee Paquette on AEW Dynamite was reportedly not the original plan

As seen during the May 17th 2023 edition of AEW Dynamite, there was a brief backstage segment between MJF and Renee Paquette. Renee asked MJF a question about the upcoming Double or Nothing PPV four-way world title match. MJF responded by slapping the microphone out of her hand and storming off.

According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, the segment was not the original plan. Meltzer explained what the initial idea was…

“There was a promo segment involving everyone in the match and Britt Baker was involved. It ended with Baker saying that even if he wins, he’s not going to hold the title long Bay Bay. The idea is that [Adam] Cole gets the next big title chase against whoever wins the match.”

Meltzer added that something about the segment was deemed “not good” and it was changed to what aired on television. Meltzer speculated that it was possibly changed so fans don’t think MJF vs. Cole is the post-PPV direction.

MJF here leaving Renee Paquette shocked/appalled was a great touch. You could cut the tension with a knife.
