Why Logan Paul and Dominick Mysterio are better then 90% of modern wrestlers

So last week, Stevie Richards released a video praising Logan Paul and saying that he thought Logan was better than pretty much everybody in AEW and WWE. Obviously, a week later that clip got picked up by the wrestling media, but it was edited to make it seem like he was just making fun of AEW.

This riled up the AEW fanbase and wrestlers, including a certain journalist who can’t be named here, and they went on the defensive and defended AEW.

But if you actually listen to the whole video, Stevie made some great points, and it showed why Logan is probably one of the best wrestlers in the world right now. I also want to give my thoughts on the whole situation, and I want to include Dominik Mysterio because I think he’s just as good as Logan right now.

When you look at most modern wrestlers who learn how to wrestle through the indies, they are mostly focused on how many moves they can do to get a quick pop from the audience. They take match ratings way too seriously, which makes them just another guy who can pull off great athletic matches with no emotion. This leads to fans forgetting those matches, and those wrestlers end up blending into the industry. For some reason, actually selling and doing character work is seen as awful in their eyes. They think the little things that used to take matches from good to great don’t matter anymore, and if you can hit as many high spots as possible, that’s what makes a match great. Some people within the industry even encourage this mentality.

Meanwhile, you look at Logan and Dominik. Are they the best in-ring wrestlers in the world? No, they aren’t, even though they’re really good for the amount of time they’ve been in the business. But when you look at every aspect of what makes a wrestler great—selling, promos, character work, in-ring psychology—they are some of the best in the business right now.

Just look at Logan’s run since he joined WWE. The guy knows how to get his character over and does it through promos and how he acts in the ring during matches. He always finds ways to debut new things in his matches without giving everything away all the time, and fans continue to care about him as he’s one of the most hated wrestlers in the industry today.

Look at how he sold his head after getting beat up by The Vision last week. In AEW, the same spot would have been someone getting beat up on the outside and then popping right back up like nothing happened to get their revenge. But Logan got attacked, sold the injury, waited, and then chose the right moment to get his revenge. That’s how you hook the audience, and that’s what makes him one of the best in the business—he’s a real student of the game and understands the little details that make everything look better and draw fans into what’s happening.

As for Dominik, just look at his run this year, especially his short program with Cena. The guy can instantly get fans to cheer him or hate him and can pivot on a dime depending on the situation. The fact that he can hang with top names like Cena or even top AAA guys like Vikingo shows how much he’s grown as a wrestler since he debuted a few years ago.

A lot of the younger guys in AEW or WWE who still think being a great wrestler is only about in-ring performance really should watch what Logan and Dominik are doing, because they’re blowing them out of the water. They’ve learned from watching some of the greats like Austin, Rock, Flair, HBK, and Bret Hart, and they’re becoming the next generation of top stars. Meanwhile, guys like Kyle Fletcher—who is a really good in-ring performer but needs work in other areas—will probably be forgotten in a few years if they don’t change their mentality and learn how to do the little things that hook fans into their characters.
