Who will cost Cody Rhodes the match at SummerSlam?

SummerSlam is one of the big four premium live events of the year for WWE. We know that they like to have surprises, swerves and returns, especially at the big four. We also know speculation and rumors leading up the event become rampant.

Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt have both been rumored to possibly make a return at Summerslam, but their returns have been a constant rumor since their respective absences. Neither of them have been officially cleared to return according to any sources, but many “dirt sheets” and social media postings/discussions in the IWC have been discussing their possible returns.

Cody Rhodes is determined to “finish the story” as much as WWE seems hell bent on delaying that story being finished. Creatively and financially it may just make sense for them to continue on with that delay. They have made it very clear that even though Cody is on Raw, he is chasing the WWE Universal Championship and that title is very wrapped up in the Bloodline storylines and Roman Reign’s part -time schedule and Roman’s desire to not defend his title. With the aforementioned points, Cody needs something to keep him busy before resuming the path of “finishing the story”. Which is why we have had the everlasting Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes feud.

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar

While this feud started off as being entertaining and intriguing, it has since become stale over time. Too much time. With Brock Lesnar’s part time schedule, it’s really hard to continue the interest in this match. The recent one sided attacks on Raw with Lesnar coming out on top has also very much become stale in my opinion. So much to the point that they will need an interference in this match with a surprise return. This will also set up what’s next for Cody Rhodes.

Randy Orton

Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes are long time friends and have a long history in WWE together dating back to the Legacy stable consisting of the two of them and Ted DiBiase Jr.

Randy could make a return tonight at Summerslam and cost Cody the match to set up a feud between the two of them. Before his injury, Randy was a face with Riddle forming RK-BRO. Randy is at his best when he is the heel version of himself and I personally think he needs to distance himself from Riddle by any means necessary. A story with Cody would be a best return angle for him and keep Cody busy.

Bray Wyatt

WWE’s developmental program FCW (later rebranded as NXT), partnered with WWE Raw & Smackdown for a weekly show named NXT. On the show, Rookies were paired with Pros and competed. FCW’s Rookie Bray Wyatt, fka Husky Harris, was paired with WWE’s Pro Cody Rhodes.

Bray Wyatt could very well claim that Cody was detrimental to his success or that he mistreated him in their Pro/Rookie relationship and have reason to attack Cody Rhodes at Summerslam tonight, costing him the match.

With this theory, Bray doesn’t even have to be present to make this happen. Uncle Howdy could be the one responsible for the attack tonight and can feud with Cody until a healthy Bray Wyatt can return and finish off the feud. Imagine the mind games that could be played during a Bray/Uncle Howdy story with Cody.

Final Thoughts

Again, neither of them have been officially cleared to return to in-ring action according to any sources. This is just a theoretical prediction. What are your thoughts? Would you like to see either of these happen?
