The top 40 greatest WWE WrestleMania matches in history (part two)
I decided to create a list of my favorite Wrestlemania matches from over the years. The rankings have been determined from my own personal opinions but I took various factors into consideration including match quality, storyline, and overall impact.
Here is part two…
30. The Undertaker vs. Triple H (WrestleMania 28)
This was only the second time a Hell in a Cell match took place at WrestleMania, and the added drama of Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee made it even more impactful. Perhaps more memorable than the match itself was the post-match moment, where the three men embraced on the stage. It truly marked the “End of an Era.”
29. Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan (WrestleMania 35)
The match itself was excellent, and in terms of feel-good World Title changes, this one had one of the biggest impacts on fans. Bryan played a fantastic heel as “The Planet’s Champion,” while Kingston earned his opportunity against all odds. After years of dedication, KofiMania running wild was a truly special moment.
28. Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair (WrestleMania 24)
It wasn’t the greatest technical match ever, but it was a moment fans will never forget. Flair’s final WWE match was an emotional send-off, capped with a gut-wrenching finale. Michaels saying, “I’m sorry, I love you,” before the final superkick, followed by their post-match embrace, never fails to bring tears.
27. The Undertaker vs. Kane (WrestleMania 14)
The brother vs. brother feud between Undertaker and Kane was one of WWE’s most intriguing storylines. It wasn’t about the moves—it was about the story. Undertaker gave everything he had to defeat his brother, and even in loss, Kane looked strong. It was just the beginning of the Brothers of Destruction saga.
26. Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart (WrestleMania 12)
The first-ever 60-minute Iron Man Match in WWE history allowed Michaels and Hart to showcase the full extent of their in-ring skills. Neither man could put the other away, and it took sudden death overtime to crown a winner. Michaels’ “boyhood dream” coming true remains one of the most iconic endings in WrestleMania history.
25. The Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan (WrestleMania 6)
The stakes were as high as they could be for the era: a Champion vs. Champion, winner-take-all match. It was WWE’s two biggest babyfaces clashing, and only one could win. It was the biggest moment of Warrior’s career and a defining moment for Hogan, who proved that Hulkamania could endure—even in defeat.
24. Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage (WrestleMania 5)
The “Mega Powers exploding” storyline unfolded over the course of a year and was compelling throughout. With Miss Elizabeth caught in the middle, Hogan and Savage delivered one of the best matches of Hogan’s career. Hogan reclaimed the WWE Title in dramatic fashion.
23. Roman Reigns vs. Edge vs. Daniel Bryan (WrestleMania 37)
This was the first WWE event with a large crowd since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, offering fans their first live reaction to Reigns’ “Tribal Chief” persona. All three men delivered strong performances, but Reigns’ dominance stood out. Pinning both opponents simultaneously solidified his claim as WWE’s top star.
22. Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs. Paul Orndorff & Roddy Piper (WrestleMania 1)
The main event of the very first WrestleMania was the definition of a spectacle. Mr. T teamed with a red-hot Hulk Hogan, while Roddy Piper and Mr. Wonderful played the perfect villains. Add Muhammad Ali as the special guest referee, and you had a match that set the tone for WrestleMania’s future.
21. Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania 21)
I attended this WrestleMania in Los Angeles, and this is still the greatest wrestling match I have ever seen in person. Both Angle and Michaels delivered near-flawless performances in an epic, back-and-forth battle. Even in defeat, Michaels further cemented his legacy as “Mr. WrestleMania” with another unforgettable showing.
