Paramount is apparently buying WBD – what does it means for AEW?

So the news came out yesterday that Paramount seemed to have won the war and is buying WBD. A good portion of that deal will be financed by the Saudi government, which, like I mentioned in another column, has its hands in everything, including the U.S. government, since Trump is in business with them. But what does this deal mean for AEW? We don’t really know, so this column will be more about speculation than facts.

The first thing is the whole WBD owning part of AEW situation. Does this mean that Paramount will own part of AEW, or will Paramount just drop the ownership and let AEW be AEW? This is a hard question to answer since WBD never went public about this information, but I feel like Paramount isn’t going to want to own a part of the company, and that part of the deal will be dropped.

Then how about their current contract? This probably won’t change much, but they will have to be more careful about what they put on their shows because Tony will have to work with a new management team. Anything he gained from David Zaslav and the old WBD management will be gone, and he will have to do the work all over again and prove why AEW is valuable to the WBD networks.

Finally, the content itself. This is what will probably be the most affected by this sale, as the whole freedom of expression stuff will probably go away under Paramount. Guys like Brody King, who have been very vocal about being anti-Trump, will probably be demoted to please the new bosses since the last thing Paramount will want is to get on Trump’s bad side. If they could find a questionable excuse for canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, imagine what they will do to AEW if they continue with the “f*** ICE” stuff.

So in the end, I feel like AEW’s existence on the WB networks is on the line after this deal goes through, and we will see a lot more censorship on what can and cannot be said on television because the Ellisons will want to do whatever they can to not get on Trump’s bad side and will go after anybody who spreads an anti-Trump message, including AEW.
