Baron Corbin, Tegan Nox, and Indi Hartwell leaving WWE: Who could be next?
It’s always sad to see wrestlers losing their dream job, but that’s part of the business. WWE seems more eager to let go of people they don’t need or who don’t want to be there than they were a few years ago. So, yesterday’s releases weren’t as big of a shock as they would have been back then.
The fact is that while Baron Corbin has been a strong character for over a decade, they ran out of ideas for him. He probably had a big contract that could be used elsewhere, so they let him go. As for Indi Hartwell, they started a storyline where Candice was trying to attach herself to Nia, making Indi less necessary as Candice’s second. Without Candice, Indi had nothing going on, so she was expendable.
As for Tegan Nox, I never really understood why she was brought back outside of HHH wanting to bring her in to spite Vince. They truly did nothing with her for two years, so if you’re paying somebody to sit at home and do nothing, you’re better off releasing them and letting them move on with their career.
So, the question is, who might be on the cutting room floor in the next few months? Here are the top 10 wrestlers I think WWE may release before WrestleMania next year. Teams will count as one act, so here’s my list:
1. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn: Let’s face it, WWE hasn’t done much with these women since they were called up to the main roster. While their run on Raw has been better than their disastrous run on SmackDown, they’ve mostly been booked as jobbers, with most of their matches on *WWE Main Event*. Even during their tag title run, they weren’t really featured, which is sad considering how strong they are as characters and as a team.
2. Apollo Crews: What can I say about Crews that hasn’t been said before? He’s a great in-ring talent but lacks personality. They’ve tried many times to get him over, but nothing worked. Now that Corbin has been released, I don’t see them finding anything for him, so he’s probably going to be released sooner rather than later.
3. Blair Davenport: Unless I missed something and she’s injured, they haven’t done much with her since she was called up earlier this year, which feels like a waste of talent. This may be a case similar to Tegan, where they decide to cut their losses.
4. Gigi Dolin: I know she’s been injured for a while, but she’s been in NXT for a long time now. Before her injury, she wasn’t showing signs of improvement in the ring, which could be enough reason for them to release her.
5. Giovanni Vinci: The writing is on the wall. He came back a few weeks ago, lost back-to-back matches to Apollo Crews, and then pretty much disappeared from TV again. This suggests they’ve given up on him, and as soon as they need to do a spring cleaning, he might be among the first to go.
6. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: While I enjoy what they’re doing in NXT right now, their big contracts might be a reason why Endeavor could let them go, as I’m certain they both have high-paying contracts.
7. Kiana James: Another injured talent, but I doubt she’ll make a comeback. They weren’t doing much with her in the months since she was called up.
8. Omos: The fact that they haven’t used him since the André Battle Royal suggests HHH has given up on him as a special attraction. They’re likely to cut their losses and move on.
9. Nikkita Lyons: Given her three knee injuries in the past year and a half, it’s a real possibility they decide to cut their losses. The buzz surrounding her has cooled, and I doubt they’ll call her up to the main roster.
10. Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro: With Rey and Dragon Lee as the main tag team for the LWO, these two are barely being used on TV except when they need people to lose matches. I could see them being cut as soon as their contracts are up.
In the end, while I don’t wish for anyone to lose their job in WWE, these are the 10 acts I feel are most at risk in the near future.
