ASK TITO: Follow-up on Cody Rhodes, WWE Ticket Prices, Austin vs. Bret in HOF?, Mercedes, Saraya, and More
The Excellence in Column Writing has returned, whether you like it or not… But I’m here to answer your questions sent in via email (mostly longtime readers), social media (the poorly drawing Blue Sky or Private X/Twitter)), and the comments section below with my snappy answers. Because I’m a current events writer, I usually stick to the discussions associated with recent events rather than retro stuff.
Man, the claws came out for my recent 3/25 column about Cody Rhodes… Lots of defenders for the son of Dusty Rhodes, the EVP defector of AEW, and the man formerly known as Stardust. For those who attacked my good name, as well as NoDQ’s, let me ask you this simple question: How did Cody Rhodes do during 2024 after Wrestlemania 41? Yeah, I seem to remember business declining a tad when Cody had inferior opponents to work with and no great storylines supporting him.
I used a football analogy in my recent 3/26 column about WCW Nitro versus AEW Dynamite in that Eric Bischoff was a General Manager who risked it all to win now. Sure, he won the Super Bowl (or ratings war from 1996-1998), but he was in Salary Cap HELL years later and that reduced the quality of the team (or WCW). By 1998, Eric Bischoff’s WCW was paying millions to wrestlers in their 40s who declining from their prime years. Reminds me of the San Francisco 49ers who loaded up with veterans for the 1994 season but dealt with salary cap issues for years. Same thing recently with the Saints, Broncos, and Rams while Cleveland just stinks with that big QB signing.
Cody Rhodes is literally Dak Prescott of the WWE. Looks great when there is an offensive line, great running back, great tight end, and great receivers… But Dak begins to look bad when any of that is taken away and struggles to do “more with less”. Dallas Cowboys have lacked a good tight end for years, no running game, and their offensive line got older fast. The end result? Quarterback that is not as effective when everything is perfectly in place for him and the Dallas Cowboys are in Salary Cap hell with the massive contract they gave him.
Give Cody opponents like Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, the Rock, and John Cena, he’ll look fantastic in the ring.
But I implore you to go back and watch 2024 AFTER Wrestlemania 24. The hype for Cody as World Champ died as he was feuding with Solo Sikoa and AJ Styles. Whoopsie. I further implore you to watch Cody Rhodes’s AEW stuff from 2019 through 2021. Just a few matches here and there that were good, but nothing to get totally excited about (besides Cody vs. Dustin for me).
Sorry folks, but there’s a reason why Cody was mostly a midcarder before and why Vince McMahon and Triple H were perfectly comfortable with him remaining as “Stardust” through the mid 2010s. They didn’t see his potential to become a big star back then and they were right. However, the release made Cody work harder to prove himself and leaving AEW as an EVP created buzz for his 2022 return to WWE. Fulfilling the legacy of his father, Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, was a great story… But to tell this GREAT STORY, he needed Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, and Roman Reigns to each put him over and to win the Royal Rumble twice in a row. That reads to me like booking dependency to me…
The Rock, CM Punk, and Roman Reigns are your top guys right now, as they are a thousand times more creative on the microphone and personality than Cody Rhodes. I’d argue that Drew McIntyre proved himself last year with his personality and microphone skills to be arguably better than Cody. Drew has had his booking dependencies, too, but Drew proved during 2024 that he can organically get over and he really helped re-establish CM Punk as a top dependable star last year. I’d argue that a few guys coming up, such as Bron Breakker, will be bigger stars than Cody and his favorable booking.
But that’s my opinion and anytime that I post, I clearly label my columns as “MR. TITO:” so that you KNOW who wrote it.
For some of you who are wanting Aaron Rift, owner of NoDQ, to cancel me for having an opinion on pro wrestling is ridiculous. Furthermore, labeling NoDQ as “anti-AEW”, “anti-WWE”, or even “pro-WWE or pro-AEW” is more ridiculous. NoDQ.com presents ALL OPINIONS in any way, shape, or form and is welcome to anyone contributing to the website as an opinion writer or even talking on the YouTube page. If I’m so terrible at what I do, then join NoDQ’s opinionated section to show me how it’s done. Otherwise, shut up and just don’t read my columns. How hard is that to comprehend? You don’t have to click into my columns…
We live in a world where nobody accepts the simple principles of freedom of speech or expression, and if your own tastes/preferences don’t line up perfectly with someone else, that other person is deemed “defective” and must be silenced. If you haven’t noticed on the world stage lately, anyone with an opposing political opinion is shamed and the press is getting demonized for simply doing their job on reporting facts or presenting a valid opinion.
I’ve been hearing this crap for years of wanting to silence my opinion. Let me advise everyone of this: I’M NOT GOING AWAY ANYTIME SOON, to quote my boy Charles Barkley.
And I professionally state my opinions without saying anything vulgar or slanderous. My opinion on Cody is that he’s great working with great opponents, and not as great when he’s required to “do more with less”. That’s it, and yet I should be fired from NoDQ for that or removed from the internet scene entirely? Others have personally attacked readers or fellow columnists with high degrees of slander, but I should be let go for simply stating my opinion in a professional manner? Good lord…
Many of you need to take a chill pill… These are just wrestling opinions and should not have any impact on your personal life. If they do, then you have anger issues that should be addressed in therapy.
Onto your questions.

Thoughts on everyone else now picking up on WWE’s higher ticket prices?
Yeah, isn’t that nice… NOW many others are writing about and complaining about WWE’s abnormally high ticket prices, particularly for their bigger events. I wrote a column on January 12th, 2025 titled “Will WWE’s Rising Ticket Prices Have Harmful Effects on its Loyal Fanbase?”, as I was experiencing the thought of attending the 2025 Royal Rumble in Indianapolis, IN and was amazed at how highly priced upper deck tickets were. In the past, WWE had higher prices for ringside tickets, as the experience closer to the ring commands that price and many loyal WWE fans were willing to pay it. Now, the entire arena is overpriced for WWE events and the ringside area is much, much more.
I believe with Wrestlemania 41 that WWE has HIT A WALL with their price gouging and it’s going to cost them in terms of bragging rights on attendance. Last we’ve seen, they are just a shade under 50,000 per night in a football stadium that does 65,000 for football, but should expand considerably beyond that for events where people can sit on the field as floor seats. Right now, the cheapest of the cheap seats is $200 per person and there are a few floor seats still available at $1,700+. The bigger issue is Las Vegas, as while the hotel nightly prices are reasonable (though they raise them during event weeks), that place is expensive to fly to and they nickel and dime you on everything. Get money out of an ATM, for example, as it’s normally $3-5 elsewhere but $25 or more in Vegas.
WWE may have to enjoy the tickets already sold because the economy may be hitting a recession soon. Prior to 2025, the consumer was tapped out with higher credit card debt and lower personal savings due to years upon years of dealing with excessive inflation created by the over-reaction to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and the ability of grocery corporations (Kroger, Walmart, etc.) to openly price gouge necessity items without any anti-trust reprimands. Then, TARIFFS are being either threatened or placed on imported goods, which United States producers have to pay as additional taxes (not other countries), and it sets the groundwork for (a) more inflation and (b) cutbacks by producers. Consumer Confidence numbers are tanking right now, indicating massive cutbacks by consumers on expenditures which include luxury purchases like Wrestlemania tickets and trips to Las Vegas.
On top of all of that, the international attendee of Wrestlemania and other big WWE events is re-thinking their trips to the United States. For one, many citizens of these countries in these trade wars are boycotting the United States, whether it’s taking trips there or buying goods from them. It’s one thing if WWE comes to them, like they did recently by going to Canada and now with a very successful European tour, but it’s something entirely different to travel to America to attend a WWE event. And then to deal with higher prices of Las Vegas and the prices of tickets, merchandise, parking, etc. at Wrestlemania 41? Not worth it… Plus, this trade war will affect their country’s economy, too, which limits their confidence in spending money too.
Just a perfect storm of bad news for the WWE who decided to price gouge its fanbase, and now they’ll pay dearly on future events UNLESS they can create a compelling storyline that hooks fans in. What will be that storyline? That’s why executing a great Wrestlemania 41 and the RAW on the night after matters to set the momentum for the entire Spring/Summer. WWE was LAZY last year following Wrestlemania 41, allowing key stars to take lots of time off, and giving us substandard feuds like Cody vs. AJ Styles repeatedly (no offense to AJ, you had a great career but you’re getting older). In the past, the New World Order and Austin vs. McMahon did incredible business during the Summer time months, but now, WWE just focuses on Rumble to Wrestlemania with some concern about August’s SummerSlam. May, June, and July along with the competitive months against the NFL (September through December) just don’t matter to WWE.
So yeah, WELCOME TO THE PARTY, PAL to all of the commentators now noticing WWE’s price gouging. Been there for years, as I thought WWE’s ticket prices were high previously and wrote about that in many, many columns. Now, it’s just absurd, but hilarious to see many people hopping on the bandwagon as a criticism towards the WWE merely because they’re crying about the Wrestlemania 41 build.
Speaking of that, I put many WWE online haters in their place recently on their dislike for the Wrestlemania 41 hype while they turned the other cheek for the many BAD Wrestlemanias of 2010s. The issue is that everyone thinks that WWE can magically remake Wrestlemania 40, but that’s impossible because (a) Roman Reigns was still a heel and champ and (b) the Rock as available to perform. I also think that Wrestlemania 39 was quite good… But they can’t all be perfectly booked and not everyone is available to perform at these shows. But as I wrote in another column, WWE has painted themselves into a corner by keeping the title on Cody Rhodes for too long. The John Cena heel turn was a “hail Mary” and completely unplanned until business needed a massive shot in the arm.
But still, I’ll take Wrestlemania 41’s hype over virtually ANY of the Wrestlemanias in the 30s in number. How on earth did we survive the WWE’s crap during 2010s with the terrible Roman babyface push and Brock Lesnar making the entire roster look silly? Oh, and pushing Charlotte Flair to the moon, which is literally what the WWE is about to do AGAIN.
That’s the beauty of being Mr. Tito… I’m an EARLY ADOPTER on wrestling takes and opinions, and especially on the economic matters that relates to wrestling, I’m hardly ever wrong. I’ve been on this ticket price thing for a while and WWE has screwed themselves by trying to gouge its fanbase. Lower ticket prices would have boosted attendance and then fans would hand them their money, anyway, for the fan fests and merchandise. As an attendee of the 2025 Royal Rumble, I witnessed first-hand how much fans are willing to pony up on merchandise. Holy cow… That outside store set up by Fanatics made a serious mint of money that day. But you’ll get less of that in Las Vegas, at least nightly, with 20,000 fewer fans than the Rumble.
And here’s another point that I want to make about Wrestlemania… Why have it in Las Vegas? It’s more of a pain to get to than somewhere with much more population. Most of us live in the Eastern side of the United States. With Rumble being in Indianapolis, it’s literally up to 5 hours away from many, many people traveling by car. With it being on Interstate 70, one of the biggest highway arteries in the country, it’s extremely accessible for most fans to attend and there are many hotels to stay on the way there. There’s a reason why Indianapolis is popular for conventions…
WWE needs to make their events more affordable to attend or else they’ll price out loyal fans, which has been seen in leagues like the NBA. And then when you don’t make all of your top stars available, you’re just like NBA and their load management.

Do you think that John Cena will revert back to his babyface character at the end of 2025?
I don’t think so, folks… His promos aren’t just tearing into the haters, but the loyal fans. “I’m divorcing myself from you”. That’s different… It’s one thing if his heel turn was to just become 17-time champion and was purposely done to anger his haters, but for him to trash the loyal fanbase who have been chanting “Let’s Go Cena” for decades, that’s different. There’s no putting that toothpaste back into the tube.
Again, this is why proper planning needs to be involved with WWE Creative and not just changing things on the fly because the Rock wasn’t available to wrestle but is now suddenly available to appear on this random episode of Smackdown and then Elimination Chamber. The same chaos was seen last year when the Rock suddenly became available just after Royal Rumble 2024 and shoe-horning Rock vs. Roman immediately after a Rumble winner was set didn’t make sense (makes Jey Uso look really stupid, too, by not challenging for the WWE Title).
The way Cena is just shredding the fanbase makes it impossible to go back to a babyface in just 1 year. It would take something like Rock turning on John Cena, but even then, it erases the point of why Cena turned heel.
I don’t think that it’s going to happen… I think with Cena, he hasn’t been his authentic self and playing a character in the WWE. From now on, you’ll get this semi-version of him when he appears. “But that will affect his box office”. Really? Rock was a babyface from 2004 through 2023 and how did it affect his movies again? Take out Moana and leeching off the “Fast and the Furious” films, he’s had a ton of box office busts. Believe it or not, John Cena has a lot of versatility to his acting game and I don’t think that would affect his box office. Trust me, I’m buying whatever he does as the Peacemaker character, as Season 1 was one of the best television seasons that I’ve EVER seen in my life. Cena will be fine… With TV and Movies, you’ll take quality no matter who is acting in it.

Thoughts on WWE now inducting matches into their Hall of Fame?
Reportedly, Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart from Wrestlemania 13 shall be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as the first ever match inducted. Personally, I don’t mind it because it’s going to reunite many great stars and allow the wrestlers to get on the HOF stage and tell stories. But man, the politics of which match gets selected shall get CRAZY… If we’re going 1 match per year, that will create loads of controversy.
For example, how is Andre vs. Hogan from Wrestlemania 3 not the first match inducted? Seriously… Wrestlemania 3 made the WWE into a national empire, as that show had so much national hype. It caused WWE to draw massively on NBC with the Main Event shows and allowed them to create other big shows like Survivor Series 1987. Wrestlemania 13 is one of the WORST drawing Wrestlemania shows of ALL TIME and Bret vs. Austin didn’t even headline the show (Sid vs. Taker did).
As it turns out, Bret vs. Austin turned out to be one of the most beloved matches in WWE history in hindsight and its impact of the double switch between Hart turning heel and Austin becoming babyface had long-term impacts. But at the time, Wrestlemania 13 was an event with 18,000 attending. Isn’t that funny how we’re complaining about Wrestlemania 41 doing 50,000 per night, but yet Wrestlemania 13 did just 18,000 paying fans and those ticket prices back then were CHEAP. WWE couldn’t price gouge to a severely declining audience who thought WCW was cooler.
And hell, ya wanna talk about HYPE of a Wrestlemania show?!? Wrestlemania 13 was supposed to feature Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart in an epic rematch from their (overrated in my opinion) Wrestlemania 12 match-ups. BUT, somebody “lost their smile” and completely WRECKED the plans of this show. The show’s booking was completely rigged to get to and settle with Sid vs. Undertaker and Austin vs. Bret, the latter of which was already settled at Survivor Series 1996 but revamped quickly for Wrestlemania 13. Had Austin vs. Bret not been perfectly executed, WWE would be in a bigger world of hurt for 1997. But because was perfectly executed and set the stage for Austin to become babyface and Bret Hart to turn heel and create the Hart Foundation stable, business was about to pick-up.
Hence, why this is a worthy Hall of Fame candidate match… So, I see it now. Hogan vs. Andre made an already growing WWE much bigger, while Austin vs. Bret literally saved the WWE and made it grow once again.

What will Saraya (Paige in WWE) do next after leaving AEW?
According to Saraya, her break with AEW was mutual and she appreciates her time there. Good to hear someone being a professional over an exit from a company.
I think with Saraya, she was forced to stop competing in the WWE due to injuries and that carried into her effectiveness in AEW. As she’s admitted, she has scoliosis and speaking from personal experience, that leads to all kinds of back and neck issues (even after straightened and repaired). If WWE thought she could still perform, they would have let her between 2018 and 2022, but they didn’t and tried the non-wrestling role stuff.
Timing is everything… TNA just released Gail Kim as their producer and head of Talent Relations, and if I were Saraya, I’d chase that role.
In my humble opinion, it was Saraya who changed the female game in the WWE. She proved that you could look great AND be an effective wrestler. Once her influence pushed through the NXT system, others who followed her benefitted greatly such as AJ Lee, Charlotte, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Becky, and the many that came after them. WWE ranked her 17th on their top female wrestler list, but I think she should be higher based on influence alone. She’s the prototype for the modern female WWE wrestler.
Issue with Saraya, though, is that she’s very opinionated, as upper management never likes that (same issue Tessa Blanchard has), but the personal baggage has always limited her. The sex tape stuff that came out and then the abusive relationship with Alberto Del Rio really tarnished her. Some of her personal problems came up during the hype of her WWE movie, too, “Fighting With My Family”, to reduce the effectiveness of the marketing to make that film do better. Better choices could have been made, but hey, nobody is perfect and everyone is allowed to grow.
She’s still 32 years old… There’s a chance that WWE considers bringing her back, but the female room is getting crowded with more NXT call-ups coming up. However, she’s legitimately talented and a massive influence on the business that it makes everything worth it. If she cannot compete, having her help with Sara Del Rey on training or even helping Shawn Michaels book the women’s division in NXT could be valuable.
Just for her wrestling mind alone, TNA and WWE should inquire her services… Just put in boundaries to ensure that the personal life doesn’t override the professional life.

Thoughts on Gail Kim being let go by TNA?
Maybe TNA was aware of Saraya leaving AEW and just opened a spot? I don’t know…
Gail Kim returned to TNA during 2011 and has been there through just recently when she was let go as a producer and Head of Talent Relations. But this isn’t specifically about Gail Kim, as TNA cleaned house on several executives on Tuesday. Lots of changes happening in TNA, as they’ve been a rotating carousel of executives and leaders of the creative team lately.
If I were AEW, I’d seriously consider her skillset and knowledge as a worker to help the Women’s division. Sorry, but they need serious help based on the roster that Kenny Omega built and how they are booked. Gail Kim is tough as nails and that division needs a bulldog yapping at them to straighten things out.
I just wonder if any of this house cleaning is related to the TNA deal with WWE? I just don’t know… If Anthem is trimming more and more TNA management, I wonder if an acquisition is going to happen soon besides just a working deal? I’ve seen enough mergers and acquisitions personally in my day to know when the signs might be there… With WWE hoarding so much talent, they’ll need another promotion to display it.

Do you agree with Kevin Nash that Mercedes Moné has been “phoning her stuff in”?
Again, READ MY PAST COLUMNS… I’ve been saying this for a while. The Mercedes that’s in AEW is no where near as great as the “Sasha Banks” version of Mercedes. Hell, I said that the version that New Japan purchased was much different.
Dealing with the Vince McMahon micro-managed WWE damaged her soul and passion to be a professional wrestler. Personally, I think she wanted to make acting a full-time gig, but Hollywood is drying up thanks to the Streaming Wars and the paychecks are also dwindling there. To me, returning to pro wrestling is SETTLING for Mercedes and I’d argue the same thing happened to Ronda Rousey. Ronda wanted to be an actress, too, but once the possibilities dried up, she settled to join WWE. Yeah, it pays well, but if it’s not your passion or what motivates you lately, the effort will be less.
That’s the danger of giving out $2-4 million in guaranteed money, Tony, for someone who left another company on bad terms and appeared to be “phoning it in” with New Japan.
And I could use the same “phoning it in” argument with Okada. He seriously gives zero Fs now that he’s accepting millions of guaranteed dollars with AEW after working hard to earn that contract in New Japan.
Maybe that’s a good argument against fully guaranteed contracts?
I also think with Mercedes, she’s 33 now but has years of WWE touring under belt. That tiny frame getting slammed repeatedly adds up quicker than a larger wrestler or a male wrestler with more mass and bone density. Plus, she used to be a high risk worker and would obtain various injuries during her WWE tenure. In addition, Mercedes promotes various cannabis products and has openly admitted the use of them, both to alleviate pain and recreational usage. That could be making her much more CHILL and not as hungry to perform as before.
THAT SAID, many wrestlers go to AEW and suddenly, their career sucks… Cody Rhodes had all of this indy and international momentum, and he didn’t look great there. I’d argue that CM Punk looked kind of old and tired there, but is much more energetic and crisp inside the ring now. Kenny Omega was much better inside New Japan rings versus performing in AEW rings. Adam Copeland doesn’t look the same as he once did and Jon Moxley has reverted backwards to his deathmatch indy days. Many WWE releases went there and busted almost immediately.
You can insist that Mercedes is “phoning it in”, but everybody does on Tony’s dime. He’s easy to get money from, while never holding anyone accountable. That is literally what Eric Bischoff became following November 1996 when Eric joined the NWO. Once you become “one of the boys”, the other boys will take advantage of you.

Do you think that WWE will re-sign Rusev and possibly Lana with him?
I think so… While he is a John Laurinaitis signing (2010, was initially in FCW), he was there when Triple H took over during mid-2012 and Triple H enjoyed working with him for the rest of his NXT tenure. On the main roster, Triple H tried to push him several times but was often under-cut by Vince McMahon’s usual micro-managing. The whole “Rusev Day” stuff, as it seemed to be exploding but Vince had other ideas.
Lana, on the other hand, is a Triple H signing. I could see the pair returning to the WWE, possibly as a post-Wrestlemania 41 RAW surprise.
And I think we’ll get a throwback to how they were originally here with Lana as his spokesperson and Rusev just being a bulldozer kind of character.
If not Lana, maybe Aiden English gets another chance as his hype man for the “Rusev Day”? I’d love that, but maybe that ship has sailed?

Thoughts on WWE giving India a Premium Live Event for 2026 or 2027?
As long as it’s a non-big 3 event, I’m perfectly fine with it. I still think that it’s BS that the Royal Rumble is going to Saudi Arabia next year. Politics aside, it is my opinion that for the big 3 events (Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam), those should be REWARDS for loyal North American and English fans who have supported the WWE financially for years. It is a FACT that the majority of WWE’s funding comes from North America, so therefore, keep the bigger events here as a reward.
If other countries want to host the bigger WWE PLEs, then MAKE THEM EARN IT. And not by cutting a bigger check, which the countries of Saudi Arabia and India are doing. Let the FANS determine where these events should be. While India has a big population, not all of them are WWE fans and it seems like Saudi Arabia is very selective on who attends their WWE events.
Any country can have a WWE PLE, as they have at least 1 per each month. Have at it, enjoy Backlash or even Money in the Bank.
Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, and SummerSlam are precious and were made by United States fans and we deserve a chance to attend those first as the most loyal and highest paying fanbase. Look at how much we’re willing to pay to attend Rumble and Wrestlemania this year. 70,000 for 1 night and 2 different nights of 50,000 fans each thought paying AT LEAST $200 to see a live WWE PLE was a good idea, let alone up to $3,000 for ringside tickets. You’re NOT getting those ticket prices in India, sorry, and same for Saudi Arabia whose government will just cut a massive check anyway (they just want WWE’s exposure and advertisements). In a business sense, it would be STUPID for the WWE leave North America or England’s incomes for their big 3 events.
WWE is a North American based company. Yes, they have international interests, but the majority of funds come from United States fans and companies supporting WWE. Getting a quick buck in Saudi from a government is different than building loyalty through millions of paying fans who will get their kids into the product with a Rumble, Wrestlemania, or SummerSlam experience.
Saudi can have their Crown Jewel event, and India can create their own for all I care… But both countries and their fanbases need to do more to host traditional WWE events that were made famous in North America.

What are your thoughts on recent Hulk Hogan family drama?
I’ve already my thoughts on Hulk Hogan, many many times… The show “Hogan Knows Best” show just harmed everyone involved with success going to everyone’s heads and inflating already high egos. Hogan is the most compulsive liar and opportunist ever, Linda was loyal to THAT to a fault, Nick thought he was invincible from the law, and Brooke Hogan was willing to ride the wave of her dad’s celebrity to where ever it would take her.
But I think for Linda to attack her own daughter publicly is a joke. You should NEVER do that to your own children, your flesh & blood. Be a REAL PARENT and talk directly to your kids.
Making matters worse, both Linda and Hulk have been personal trainwrecks for the past 15 years. The divorce was messy, but then you have Hulk Hogan not only having a sex tape released, but that same sex tape had tons of racial slurs said by the Hulkster. Linda began dating someone close to her kid’s age and then by 2012, she got into legal trouble with a DUI. Just endless drama with rough things said in her book and on Social Media. Gee, I wonder why Brooke Hogan avoids her parents?
As a parent, you need to BE THERE for your kids and NOT BE A PERSONAL EMBARRASSMENT for them either. Seriously, Brooke Hogan will be forever questioned about her dad’s N-word slurs even if she appears to not be anywhere close to a racist herself. I don’t blame her, one bit, for staying away from her toxic pair of parents.
