All 21 matches from The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WWE WrestleMania ranked
Let’s rank all 21 of the matches from The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WWE WrestleMania.
We will start off with the worst matches and get those out of the way. In my opinion, the worst Undertaker WrestleMania match would have to be against Giant Gonzalez at WrestleMania 9. I think most of you would agree with me on this. Giant Gonzalez was brought in to be a monster opponent for The Undertaker, and on paper, it sounded like a decent idea—but in execution, it was a complete flop. Gonzalez debuted at the Royal Rumble wearing a ridiculous bodysuit, and the match they had at WrestleMania was even more ridiculous. He could barely move, and The Undertaker wasn’t able to do much with him. The match ended in a lame DQ finish—at WrestleMania, no less. It was a disaster, one of the worst WrestleMania matches of all time.
Next up would be The Undertaker vs. Big Boss Man in a Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 15. Another terrible match—arguably the worst Hell in a Cell ever. The expectations were high because of Undertaker’s previous Cell classics with Shawn Michaels and Mankind, but this one was just dull and lifeless. The finish, where Undertaker “hangs” Big Boss Man, was awful.
Then we move on to a series of forgettable matches.
WrestleMania 11: Undertaker vs. King Kong Bundy — another slow, boring monster match that didn’t click.
WrestleMania 7: Undertaker vs. Jimmy Snuka — the start of the streak, but an average match that only stands out because it began the 21-0 legacy.
WrestleMania 19: Undertaker vs. Big Show and A-Train — another big-man tag that felt like a waste of The Undertaker at that stage.
WrestleMania 13: Undertaker vs. Sid — Undertaker won the WWF Title, which was cool, but the match was terrible and had to follow the legendary Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin bout. It never stood a chance.
WrestleMania 8: Undertaker vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts — could’ve been a classic, but Jake was on his way out of the company, so it turned into a quick squash.
WrestleMania 22: Undertaker vs. Mark Henry — a casket match that was predictable and flat. Fans didn’t buy Henry as a real threat to the streak.
At this point, we start getting into the more middle-of-the-road quality matches.
WrestleMania 12: Undertaker vs. Diesel — one of the better “big man” matches for Undertaker. Nothing spectacular, but solid.
WrestleMania 20: Undertaker vs. Kane (II) — memorable for the return of The Deadman persona and Paul Bearer’s involvement, but the match itself was just okay.
Now we start moving into the good stuff.
WrestleMania 28: Undertaker vs. Triple H (Hell in a Cell, “End of an Era”) — I always thought this one was overrated. It had great drama and presentation, but for a Hell in a Cell match, it was pretty tame. The emotional ending with Taker, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels embracing was the best part.
WrestleMania 14: Undertaker vs. Kane (I) — the storyline buildup was phenomenal. A yearlong feud that culminated perfectly. Probably the best of Undertaker’s “monster” matches, with Kane kicking out of multiple Tombstones before finally going down.
WrestleMania 18: Undertaker vs. Ric Flair — surprisingly great considering both men’s ages. Flair bled, Arn Anderson interfered, and they delivered a gritty, old-school fight.
WrestleMania 17: Undertaker vs. Triple H (I) — a wild brawl through the crowd and one of the first matches where fans really started acknowledging The Streak as a big deal.
WrestleMania 24: Undertaker vs. Edge — a very good main event match, though I never really bought Edge as a credible threat to end the streak. Still, the in-ring work was excellent.
WrestleMania 29: Undertaker vs. CM Punk — easily the best match on that show. Punk and Taker had great chemistry, and while it wasn’t likely Punk would win, the story and pacing made it compelling.
WrestleMania 21: Undertaker vs. Randy Orton — criminally underrated. I was there live, and the crowd absolutely believed Orton could end the streak. The storytelling was fantastic, especially with Bob Orton’s interference. One of the best near-falls in streak history.
WrestleMania 23: Undertaker vs. Batista — a show-stealer. Hard-hitting, fast-paced, and full of intensity. Many consider this the best match of Batista’s career and one of Taker’s best from the 2000s.
Now we’re down to the top three.
#3 – WrestleMania 27: Undertaker vs. Triple H (II): This was my favorite of their trilogy. It followed the two Shawn Michaels matches and still managed to feel epic. Brutal chair shots, great drama, and an emotional ending where Undertaker won but needed help leaving the arena while Triple H stood tall. Outstanding storytelling.
#2 – WrestleMania 26: Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (II): Shawn’s farewell match — emotional, beautifully told, and nearly as good as their first encounter. The story of Michaels refusing to quit and Undertaker finally putting him down made for a powerful ending to an incredible career.
#1 – WrestleMania 25: Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (I): Quite possibly the greatest WrestleMania match of all time. No gimmicks, no stipulations — just two legends telling a perfect story in the ring. The crowd was electric, every move mattered, and the drama was off the charts. A flawless masterpiece and the crown jewel of The Undertaker’s streak.
