WWE star says John Cena “did the right thing” by tapping out to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event

As seen during Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th 2025, John Cena lost to Gunther in his final match by tapping out. While speaking on the SNME post-show, The Miz defended WWE’s booking decision…

“When was the last time you are interested in a sleeper? Anything that Gunther does, you believe in everything. Think about John Cena’s career for just a second. Who did he always go up against? The biggest, baddest heel. That is who Super Cena went up against. Normally he would beat him. Then they [the fans] would be like, ‘Cena beats everybody, I can’t stand it!’ Now what happens? John Cena did the right thing. He tapped out. He gave up to Gunther.

Gunther is the future. You look at Gunther. He is the future, whether you like it or not. He is the future of this business. People are like, ‘But he’s in his upper 30s!” This guy is in his prime. I have wrestled him. I have been in the ring with him. I know how damaging he can be. I also know, what guy made me a babyface when I wrestled him? Gunther!”
