WWE reportedly has plans for Cody Rhodes and Jelly Roll vs. Randy Orton and Pat McAfee
It was noted by Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com that Ari Emanuel, Executive Chairman of TKO, is positioning Pat McAfee as a crossover star – both as a potential Hollywood-style action figure and as a major presence for WrestleMania 42 coverage on ESPN. As part of that strategy, it’s believed that Emanuel personally asked McAfee to be revealed as the mystery person calling Randy Orton, leading to a WrestleMania angle where McAfee would be in Orton’s corner while country music star Jelly Roll supports WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. McAfee initially declined the role, which forced WWE to consider other options, but he ultimately agreed to participate.
Meltzer also stated the following…
“As part of the deal, McAfee will team with Orton against Rhodes & Jelly Roll coming out of WrestleMania and be a key match at the Backlash PPV on 5/9, at least as of plans that were confirmed to us by multiple people and were still in play at press time.”
