WWE reportedly considered having Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes take place inside Hell in a Cell

It was previously reported by PWInsider.com that the original pitch for the Undisputed WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 42 was Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes in a Hell in a Cell match. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that Roman Reigns vs. Cody, which was believed to be the original main event for WrestleMania, was potentially going to take place inside the Hell in a Cell structure.

Meltzer stated the following:

“Those in WWE that we asked said that there was never a serious thought or plan, but Hell in a Cell was heavily discussed for Rhodes vs. Reigns before the decision to change everything after the injury to Seth Rollins and the decision to put the title on McIntyre.

We were told the idea of Rhodes vs. Randy Orton came up and was the direction, and then that was changed four different times since it was first brought up. However, it has largely been the direction since the plan for Orton to win the Elimination Chamber match, which we were told was made in the first week of February.”

At this time, there is no word regarding when Hell in a Cell will return, although there are reports that WWE could add stipulation matches to the WrestleMania card.
