WWE Hall of Famer JBL defends Booker T: “I think he’s a great commentator”

WWE NXT personality Booker T was voted as the “worst” wrestling announcer of 2025 by readers of Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The top five were Booker T, Pat McAfee, Michael Cole, Vic Joseph, and Tony Schiavone.

“I don’t know what water head would make Booker T anything but the greatest. I think Booker’s awesome. Booker is a role model. Booker is a legend. He’s a multi-time Hall of Famer. I think he’s a great commentator. He’s done so much for this business as far as training guys. He’s one of the best guys I’ve ever met. And I think he’s a great commentator, and people agree with that.

You know, it’s just like these press gimmicks that come out—and it’s not just Meltzer, it’s any of these awards that come out. You don’t get followings by being positive and saying, ‘Hey, this guy’s really great.’ You get followings by saying, ‘Oh, this guy’s terrible.'”
