The June 6th 2022 edition of WWE RAW kicked off with Cody Rhodes addressing his torn pectoral injury and future. Rhodes said that he was having surgery but was hopeful to return in time for Money in the Bank, win the briefcase, and become WWE Champion. Seth Rollins interrupted the segment and said that Rhodes earned his respect. Rollins shook hands with Rhodes and then left.

As Rhodes was leaving the arena, Rollins attacked him from behind with a sledgehammer and drove the sledgehammer into his pec.
