Update regarding WWE’s early 2023 creative plans for Edge

As previously noted, Edge has been rumored to be facing Finn Balor (possibly inside Hell in a Cell) at the 2023 Royal Rumble PLE. However, Edge has yet to make his return to WWE television and the Rumble PLE is less than three weeks away.

Fightful Select confirmed that at one point (ahead of Survivor Series), there were plans for Edge to face Balor in a HIAC match and Edge’s part-time schedule was a factor in the rivalry being spread out. Furthermore, there were tentative plans for Edge and his wife Beth Phoenix to team up against Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley at the 2023 Elimination Chamber PLE.

Fightful also stated the following…

“It’s worth noting that several of the plans that were on the books have been moved up, scrapped, or changed, which can always happen, and these matches can’t be considered official until WWE officially announces it themselves.”

As seen during the January 9th 2023 edition of WWE RAW, Judgment Day won a tag team turmoil match to earn a title match against The Usos. Dominik Mysterio ended up replacing Balor in the final part of the match due to a storyline injury.
