Update regarding the controversy surrounding Stephanie Vaquer leaving CMLL/NJPW for WWE
Earlier this week, it was reported that CMLL/NJPW star Stephanie Vaquer signed with WWE and Shawn Michaels confirmed the news via Twitter/X. It was also said that CMLL and NJPW were “very upset” over the way Stephanie’s departure for WWE was handled.
According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, several sources close to the situation claimed that Stephanie didn’t seriously consider AEW despite there being interest from the company. Meltzer noted that Stephanie grew up in Chile watching WWE and working there was her ultimate goal. One person in WWE stated that Stephanie was offered “a tremendous contract” on July 7th once the company was aware of an offer from AEW.
In regards to Stephanie pulling out of CMLL shows, one person close to the situation gave the following statement to Meltzer…
“They knew she was leaving, she never hid the fact she still had her WWE dream, but after everything they did for her they 100 percent expected her to go to bat for them and leave the proper way so they didn’t look like they had no say in the matter.”
“Gala Lutteroth in particular is mad at Stephanie. She helped Stephanie out with many private matters and considered her a friend not an employee.”
