Update regarding CM Punk possibly returning to be the “star” of new AEW show on Saturdays
In March, it was noted that AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery were finalizing a deal to add a third AEW show to the schedule and it would likely air on Saturdays. As previously noted, there is talk of having the rumored Saturday show featuring CM Punk with AEW’s roster being largely split.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com went into more details about the idea…
“There is a meeting soon and involves Chris Jericho, Tony Khan, CM Punk, FTR, and there may be others in there as well. That’s coming up. I guess the idea is to resolve everything or attempt to resolve everything. It’s going to be interesting. Tony Khan wants Punk back, to be the star of the Saturday show and it’s probably… I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen.”
“I heard about the Saturday show long before [the reports of] Punk coming back. Could it be related? When you look at the idea behind it, it definitely could be related. You’re going against every big boxing match. You’re going against college football all fall, you’re going against the World Series, there’s going to be NFL on Saturdays at times. Saturday’s the toughest night for sports. That is going to be a very difficult night for them to draw anything but their most hardcore audience because there’s so much competition.” (quotes courtesy of WrestlingNews.co)
