Update on the internet reports surrounding The Lucha Brothers and WWE
It was reported in August of 2024 that sources in AEW expected The Lucha Brothers (Penta and Rey Fenix) to leave the company when their contracts expired with the belief being that they would join WWE.
Reports surfaced during the week that the Lucha Brothers signed multi-year contracts with WWE but those claims appear to have been premature. On Saturday, Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com noted the following in response to the reports…
“They are both also still under contract to AEW, so there is no way they could have legally signed with WWE. There is an expectation that when their deals expire, they are WWE-bound but as of right now, legally, they could not have signed with anyone else.”
Johnson added that according to a close to the Lucha Brothers, the team has been in communication with AEW and are available to wrestle if needed. Furthermore, WWE sources have also claimed to Fightful.com that the Lucha Brothers are not signed to WWE contracts as of yet.
Twitter/X account @Luchablog stated the following in regards to the claims that WWE is already working on Lucha Brothers merchandise…
“The ‘WWE is quickly making Lucha Brothers merch while AEW didn’t’ talking point is a little apples/oranges. Those trademarks were out there months ago too, they’re getting WWE owned gimmicks and their merch. They held onto some merch rights with AEW, a wholly different setup.”
