Update on Powerhouse Hobbs reportedly heading to WWE now that his AEW contract has expired
It was previously reported that Powerhouse Hobbs’ AEW contract expired at midnight on Thursday. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, Hobbs “was saying his goodbyes to those in the locker room” at Wednesday night’s AEW event.
Johnson confirmed that Hobbs has “been on the WWE radar for some time.” According to WrestleVotes Radio, there is an expectation that Hobbs will undergo a name change if he joins WWE. A full overhaul is possible, but shortening his name to “Hobbs” is reportedly being considered.
There is also speculation that Hobbs could debut on the main roster as part of the SmackDown brand. The initial belief was that he would start in NXT. As a free agent, Hobbs can legally appear on WWE television immediately.
Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com stated the following regarding Hobbs…
“He turned down the AEW offer, wanted to go to WWE. For some people it’s the right move and for some people it isn’t… Tony Khan liked him and everything, and he was professional. Tony didn’t take him off TV, so that tells me that he didn’t know he was going. WWE, they were pretty confident. They’ve had him for, I mean, months really.”
