Update on John Cena’s status with WWE following the Summerslam PPV
As seen at the 2021 WWE Summerslam PPV, John Cena was defeated by Roman Reigns in a Universal Title match.
While Cena is scheduled to appear at the September 10th edition of Smackdown at Madison Square Garden, Cena’s time with WWE is otherwise up for now. Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com noted the following…
“WWE is going forward with the understanding that he won’t be available for them for the foreseeable future due to filming commitments. There is no timetable for another potential return.”
Cena made a total of 14 appearances including RAW, Smackdown, live events, and Summerslam. Cena did more than what was expected by WWE because he wanted to make as many appearances as possible while he was available.
Cena bid farewell to the WWE Universe with the following message on Twitter…
Words cannot describe how appreciative I am that the @WWEUniverse allowed me the opportunity to return and perform. Thank you staff, superstars, and most of all FANS for giving me an unforgettable summer at “home” with my “family”. The journey takes me away now but I’ll C U soon.
