The Rock vs. Roman Reigns believed to be a “lock” for Wrestlemania 40 unless something unforeseen happens
As seen during the February 2nd 2024 edition of WWE Smackdown, Cody Rhodes seemingly stepped aside for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to face Roman Reigns at WWE Wrestlemania 40.
It’s believed that having a match against Reigns was part of Rock’s deal to join the TKO Board of Directors. Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com was told by sources that Rock is “100% performing in the ring” at Wrestlemania 40 and it’s a done deal. Johnson was told that there is “no scenario” where Rock doesn’t have a match with Reigns unless something unforeseen happens such as an injury.
Johnson also noted that the plan here was never to turn Rock heel but the company could adjust plans. Johnson stated the following…
“Some we spoke with believe that now that the shock of Rock coming into the storylines can wear off, creative can lock in ways to build everyone as strong as possible leading into Wrestlemania season. We are told anything is on the table creatively as they map Mania season out. There is absolutely no one in the company on the creative end that wants any of this to dilute Cody’s standing.”
During the February 5th 2024 edition of RAW, Michael Cole stated on commentary that Rock and Reigns are “perhaps” on a collision course for a match at Wrestlemania and then plugged Thursday’s Kickoff event.
