The main event of WWE SummerSlam Saturday 2025 confirmed

While speaking with Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen during the latest episode of Good Guy/Bad Guy, CM Punk gave his thoughts on WWE SummerSlam becoming a two-night event…

“Well, I think it’s two nights because this thing just keeps getting bigger and bigger, you know. I keep waiting for the wheels to fall off or the train to slow down, and it’s just—it’s a runaway train at this point. Monster records—we’re breaking gates, attendance things… I don’t know how everybody feels about that, but I’m proud. I’m proud of the crew, I’m proud of everybody who’s busting their ass to make all these things happen. So, SummerSlam being two nights to me is fun. I think a lot of wrestling fans come out and they can make a week of it with their family. I think Triple H just recently said something like it’s like Disney World for wrestling. And I see that. I definitely see that. Traditionally, we’ve had WrestleMania during colder months. So, for two nights, SummerSlam being in a warm environment—I think it’s just a better idea. You know, instead of being cold, you can be hot. You can go to the beach, then come see wrestling, and then, you know, do it all again the next day.”

Punk also revealed that his match against Gunther for the world heavyweight title will be the main event…

“I think it’s important. It’s important for the title. I think it’s important for Gunther. I think the title should, more often than not, always be featured in a main event. So, I’m looking forward to not only main eventing SummerSlam but stealing the whole weekend—you know what I mean?”
